With its one AC art gallery, one graphics studio, one workshop and one conference hall, the Lalit Kala wing of the Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra (SSK) is providing a dynamic platform to the artist community of the region to develop and showcase their creative talents.
The Lalit Kala section of centre has a wide numbers of activities to its credit. Since its inception, the Lalit Kala section of SSK has been holding various exhibitions and workshops on paintings, drawings, graphics, sculptures, woodcrafts, photographs, and others both at the state and national levels. Some of these are organised in collaboration with Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi, National Lalit Kala Centre, Kolkata, All India Fine Arts and Craft Society (AIFACS), New Delhi, National Gallery of Modern Arts, to name a few. Solo Exhibitions by various eminent artists are also held regularly apart from the exhibitions on the artworks of amateur artists of the State.
Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra is also regularly organising crafts fairs displaying the rich handloom, textiles and other traditional crafts of the region, to boost the morale of the cottage industry.
Art Gallery:
The Lalit Kala Bhawan of the Centre houses one AC art gallery. The State-of-the-art centrally air conditioned art gallery was inaugurated on 7th September 2002.
Apart from the regular exhibitions of artworks, including those of the prominent personalities of the State, SSK has also been organising the North East State Exhibition of Art and National Junior Artists Exhibition for promotion of fine arts in the region in its art gallery. The Art Gallery is being rented out to organizations and individuals for organizing exhibitions, etc depending upon the nature of their events.
Graphics Studio:
The Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra (SSK) has also a Graphics Studio at its Lalit Kala Bhavan. This was set up with support from the Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi. Artists can avail the facilities of the Studio by paying a nominal fee. Recently this Studio has been declared by Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi as their Regional Working Center and the Lalit Kala Akademi Scholarship holders are using the Studio free of cost.
