The Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra (SSK) has been organizing different cultural events, festivals, workshops, seminars, etc. from time to time for the cultural furtherance and uplift of the dance, drama and music genres of Assam.
Since the year 2000, Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra has been organizing the New Year Festival on the occasion of the English New Year. Earlier, this festival was organised from 1st to 17th January every year with elaborate arrangements incorporating folk performances of different ethnic groups of Assam apart from the classical dance forms of the region and other States of India. This festival, which is organized to welcome the New Year, is still an important event of SSK and is organized on the very first day of every year.
Among the recent developments, SSKS has accomplished a new degree of achievement by organising Srimanta Sankaradeva International Festival from the year 2016. This Festival is being organised to highlight and promote the contributions and achievements of the great saint of Assam of 15th and 16th century, Srimanta Sankaradeva, in the national and international spheres. An International Seminar on Srimanta Sankaradeva had also been organised on the occasion of the Srimanta Sankaradeva 1st and 2nd international Festival. In this same series of festival, Sankaradeva’s Parijat Haran Naat was enacted in French Language by artistes from Central Europe in 2016 and Ram Vijoy was performed in Mexican language in 2017.
Apart from the regular festivals and annual events SSK is also organized workshops on folk and classical dance forms of the State.
